DEVELOPING THE GAME
NATURALLY

EAA Hive Soccer - Elkhorn and Omaha Metro Youth Recreational Soccer League

EAA Soccer’s Hive Academy recreational soccer league offers a welcoming, development-focused environment where young athletes can learn the fundamentals of soccer while having fun and building confidence. Designed as a natural next step before EAA Roots, Hive emphasizes age-appropriate skills, teamwork, and a love for the game in a recreational setting. Players benefit from a structured curriculum that introduces them to gameplay concepts while prioritizing enjoyment and participation for all.

One of the biggest advantages of Hive Academy is its commitment to keeping the game accessible. With no tryouts or travel requirements, families can enjoy the convenience of local practices and games while their kids stay active and connected with friends. Hive helps young athletes grow at their own pace in a supportive, team-based atmosphere that’s focused on development without the added pressures of select sports.

At its core, Hive Academy is about building confidence, encouraging sportsmanship, and laying the foundation for lifelong enjoyment of the game. It’s the perfect fit for families looking for a recreational soccer experience that blends skill-building with fun, friendships, and community.

FALL 2026-SPRING 2027 AGE GROUP TRANSITION

Beginning with the Fall 2026–Spring 2027 youth soccer season, Nebraska Roots and EAA Soccer will transition away from birth-year age group registration to August 1 – July 31 age group registration. This nationwide change, led by US Youth Soccer (USYS), US Club Soccer, AYSO, ECNL, and Girls Academy, aims to better align team formation and player development with the academic school calendar.
Please note this change WILL NOT affect the current Fall 2025-Spring 2026 youth soccer season.

You can learn more about the national initiative on US Club Soccer’s official announcement here:
US Club Soccer – Age Group Cut-Off Update for 2026–27 Season

At NE Roots and EAA Soccer, it is our priority to make this transition as smooth and transparent as possible for all families and players. We understand that there are many questions and concerns surrounding these changes, and our staff is actively gathering and compiling information to help guide you through the upcoming transition. We will continue to share updates and additional details as they become available.

We are currently working on the Fall 2026–Spring 2027 coaching staff, with official announcements expected in Spring 2026.

For additional clarity, U.S. Soccer has also created an AGE GROUP CALCULATOR to help families determine their player’s age group under the new format.

HOW ARE HIVE TEAMS FORMED?

Teams are formed based on school/neighborhood and teammate/coach requests.

CAN I MAKE TEAMMATE/COACH REQUESTS DURING REGISTRATION?

EAA strives to honor all teammate/coach requests; however, due to roster size limits, we are unable to guarantee all requests will be honored.

CAN MY CHILD PLAY IN AN AGE GROUP ABOVE OR BELOW THEIR BIRTH YEAR?

Players may not participate in an age group below their birth year (“play down”). Players may only participate in an age group above their birth year (“play up”) with approval from the Hive Director and Age Group Director.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WOULD LIKE TO COACH?

First, THANK YOU! Every youth sports program depends on the spirit and energy of volunteers. You will have an opportunity to indicate you are willing to volunteer as a head or assistant coach when you register your child.  All volunteer coaches are required to successfully complete all EAA coaching requirements prior to receiving their team roster and coaching their team at practice and games- no exceptions.

WHAT ARE THE ROLES OF THE AGE GROUP DIRECTORS?

Each age group in the Hive Academy is assigned a full-time Age Group Director who is a professional coach and has experience working with young soccer players.  The Age Group Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of their age group, which includes training session design and execution, coaching and parent education and game-day management. The Age Group Director works closely with parent coaches to deliver top-notch instruction that follows a carefully designed club-wide curriculum.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHICH TEAM MY CHILD IS ON?

Coaches will receive their rosters at the coaches meeting typically two weeks prior to the start of the season. Your child’s coach will contact you with season details following their coaches meeting. Coaches will receive their rosters only after they have completed all EAA coaching requirements.

WHEN WILL MY CHILD'S TEAM PRACTICE?

4U-8U teams train one time per week under the supervision of the Age Group Director and parent coaches. 9U and 10U teams train two times per week. Please visit your child’s age group page to see the practice schedule for the season.

WHEN ARE HIVE GAMES PLAYED?

Hive games are played Friday nights and Saturdays.

HOW DO I FIND OUT PRACTICE AND GAME STATUS WHEN SEVERE WEATHER IS POSSIBLE?

Your athlete’s coach will be responsible for communicating any changes in schedule for any reason.

In the event of severe weather, or if conditions make fields unplayable, we’ll post on our X and Facebook accounts and try our best to send out an email update to families.
